    A Conversation with Judy Collins

I am honored to welcome Judy Collins to the Voice Rising Show on July 19th.

OMTimes Radio - Voice Rising with host Kara Johnstad
    July 19, 2021, 11 am PST | 2 pm EST | 7 pm GMT | 8 pm CEST

My heart opens wide to continue the conversation that began when I heard her voice for the first time. I was 8. Standing in my cornflower blue bedroom, my portable record player spinning her songs, as I looked onto cornfields. As a young singer, I found comfort in her clear, strong voice. She played guitar, piano and sang! Me too, I proclaimed with 12! The Judy Collins Songbook accompanied me to Berlin at the tender age of 20, along with 2suitcases and my guitar. The rest is history. For all the singer-songwriters in the house, stay tuned. Judy Collins and I will deep dive into voice, songwriting, and how our voices and music can play an essential role in social activism and changing our world for the better.

Beth Whitney – Songs From the Deep Woods

OMTimes VOICE RISING radio show hosted by Kara Johnstad

What draws us closer to Beth Whitneys songs is her nature-soaked, deeply rooted lyrics. A poetic songstress of the best kind, Beth’s imagery is nothing short of breathtaking. Her voice holds the tender strength of wild roses. Join Singer-Songwriter Kara Johnstad and Beth Whitney in a conversation on Voice and Songwriting. What writing rituals do we have to balance the necessary creative alone time with the long game of love? How can we create time to deep-dive into our music while raising kids and being moms? What wisdom does the wilderness hold for us? And what about the power of beauty? Beth knows firsthand how nature guides us through our own internal chaos. She lives a life far away from the stresses of a big city. As we soak in her orchestral folk music, our hearts return to a place of belonging. Yes, we, too, are a wild rose. We, too, are a bolt of thunder. We, too, are walking with our feet on solid ground. Celebrate Beth’s new album release “Into the Ground” and explore with us a unique collection of songs.

Steven Halpern -Cannabis Dreams: Tuning Fork for the Brain

OMTimes Radio Voice Rising with Host Kara Johnstad
    Airing June 28, 2021, 11 am PST | 2 pm EST | 7 pm GMT | 8 pm CEST

For centuries and across cultures, sacred ceremonies using plant medicine were vital to collective well-being. These long-revered healing plants, ayahuasca, peyote, cannabis, and mushrooms nourished individuals and were crucial for collective well-being. Yet, these long-revered healing instruments have been largely forgotten by today's society. Why? What might we be missing? And what role do music and plants play in nurturing and uplifting body, mind, and spiritual well-being?  Music is a  tuning fork for the brain. Can the frequencies and harmonics in plants inspire healing? Can music help us "get high" and feel good? What role does sound play in building peaceful communities?

Join voice-visionary Kara Johnstad, and GRAMMY® nominated composer, recording artist, and researcher Steven Halpern in an in-depth conversation on sound consciousness and his new album release, Cannabis Dreams.  In 2021, with legalization in many states and with the medical benefits of cannabis more widely accepted -Halpern's co-composed masterpiece is released, and we celebrate.  Learn through plant medicine and music to reprogram unconscious patterns that no longer serve us. Explore the principle of consciousness and change. Co-create a sound world.

Dear students, parents, and friends of the School Of Voice!

As of May 19, the School Of Voice will once again offer individual and group lessons in presence.

Of course, you are welcome to continue attending classes online.

Please talk to your teachers about the further procedure, so that you can organize the way back to face-to-face classes together.

    • For students under 6 years of age and those already tested in schools, the additional testing requirement does not apply.
    • Medical mouth-to-nose coverage is sufficient.

We are very much looking forward to finally making music with you in person again.
